Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) Engineer

OpenAI is seeking an Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) Engineer to design, develop, and optimize cutting-edge ANC technologies for next-generation audio systems. This role requires deep expertise in signal processing, algorithm development, and real-world tuning to deliver superior noise cancellation in future hardware. You will collaborate closely with acoustics, DSP, hardware, and AI-driven audio teams to shape the future of immersive sound experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement ANC algorithms (feedforward, feedback, and hybrid) optimized for embedded systems.

• Develop and refine tuning methodologies to achieve world-class ANC performance in diverse real-world environments.

• Define measurable and defensible ANC performance metrics and validation strategies.

• Analyze acoustic system characteristics, transducer behaviors, and DSP constraints to ensure robust ANC designs.

• Prototype, validate, and optimize algorithms using simulation tools and hardware-in-the-loop testing.

• Stay at the forefront of emerging ANC, DSP and AI powered audio technologies.

Ideal Candidate

• Strong foundation in digital signal processing, adaptive filtering, and audio acoustics.

• Proven track record of developing and deploying ANC algorithms in high volume production devices.

• Experience with real-time embedded DSP platforms and low-latency optimization.

• Familiarity with acoustic measurements, including chamber-based testing and tuning workflows.

• Experience with consumer electronics product development, including system integration and cross-functional collaboration.
  

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C/C++, and DSP libraries for algorithm development.

• Knowledge of adaptive algorithms and psychoacoustic modeling.

• Experience in Bluetooth audio, headphones, earbuds, or consumer product ANC systems.

• Understanding of machine learning approaches for adaptive
