Job Description Summary

The Student Enrichment and Community Outreach team is a newly established sub-team within the CHP Student Affairs Team. This inaugural role will contribute to the overall success of advancing the team’s strategic priorities. The Student Success Manager will report to the Director of Student Enrichment and Community Outreach and work collaboratively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to facilitate educational outreach, expand pathway programs, and implement student success initiatives. In collaboration with college leadership, program faculty, and other Student Affairs team members, the staff member will assist with efforts to support the holistic well-being of current students through resource navigation and coordination, as well as tailored programming related to student transition, retention, and success. The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remotely as deemed appropriate by the supervisor. Will require some scheduled evening and weekend work for programs, student meetings, and events.

Job Duties

Manage and Facilitate Pathway Programs (30%)

Provides a leadership role in developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating pathway programs focused on equitable educational opportunities. These include but are not limited to the Health Professions Exploration Program (HPEP) and the SC AHEC Summer Careers Academy.

  • HPEP: Works collaboratively with division directors and faculty admission coordinators to schedule lectures and age-appropriate experiences for students. Supports the success of the pathway programs by reviewing evaluations and determining how many participating students enter health profession programs, including those offered within CHP. Oversees program logistics to include program orientations, communications with mentees and mentors, room reservations, program supplies, and session needs. Works with the Dean’s Office administrative coordinator on program recruitment communications and the student application and selection process.

  • SC AHEC Summer Careers Academy: Serves as the Dean’s Office representative and participates in the AHEC planning committee meetings, communicates budget needs, coordinates the Dean’s Office luncheon, and communicates with the CHP participating programs.

Coordinate and Facilitate Community Outreach Efforts (30%)

Conducts community outreach and facilitates an educational outreach plan focused on career exposure and exploration. Fosters and manages relationships with administrators, guidance counselors, and STEM/Health Science teachers in regional middle and high schools. Develops linkages and contacts with community stakeholders and others to identify opportunities to engage and expose high school students to the health professions. Represents the college at local K–12 schools via career fairs, classroom visits, etc. Coordinates and serves as the point for high school field trips and on-campus visits. Participates in university-wide K–12 educational outreach initiatives (i.e., Discover MUSC, Junior Volunteer Program, and other high school symposiums).

Student Success Coaching and Resource Coordination (20%)

Serves as a student success coach and executes coaching strategies that encompass providing holistic advisement, personal wellness plans, and proactive interactions and follow-up. Provides tailored support that aids students with their transition to graduate school. Works with program faculty and identified students to create success plans, monitor their progress, and maintains appropriate records and documentation for each student.

Coordinates student support resources and wrap-around services to include referral to the appropriate campus services (CAPS, Office of Student Engagement, CAE, etc.) based on student needs. Also serves as the point of contact for internal CHP resources such as the CHP Student Food Pantry and newly developed student success workshops. Serves as the coordinator for the Mental Health First Aid Program within the college and works directly with CHP mental health first aid facilitator(s) to coordinate sessions for students, faculty, and staff.

New Program Development and Team Support (15%)

As assigned, performs additional responsibilities to further support the team’s strategic initiatives. This may include committee service, ad hoc/special assigned projects, support during peak workload periods, proposal development, program planning, formative and summative assessments, data collection and management, benchmarking analysis, and/or program enhancements based on best practices.

Given the novelty of the Student Enrichment Team, the creation of multiple new initiatives related to the team’s charge and strategic priorities will be ongoing and assistance on these new activities will be ongoing.

Student Affairs Team (5%)

Staff support for the CHP Student Engagement Office. Assists students, responds to inquiries, and provides office coverage in whatever capacity is needed. Serves as a member of the Student Affairs team and assists with major student events (e.g., new student orientation, hooding/award ceremonies, graduation events).

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: A bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in student services programs.  A successful candidate will have some relevant program planning, coordination, and/or implementation experience in an academic environment.  Must be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and have the ability to work with a wide range of students across the academic continuum of high school to graduate school.
