Senior Services Program Manager - MTM Only

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plans, organizes, directs and supervises the Senior Services program, including cultural arts, physical activities, health activities, human services, and special interest classes and programs.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
  • Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; prepares annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities and time.
  • Surveys interests and needs of senior adults. Selects, plans, organizes and coordinates a variety of recreation, health and human service programs and activities for senior citizens.
  • Organizes and oversees the development of classes, workshops, activities and special events for senior citizens.
  • Responds to public inquiries about senior adult programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings.
  • Promotes interest and provides information regarding the Tribe’s senior programs to Tribal and community leaders, community service groups, other divisions and departments, Tribal members and the general public.
  • Provides information and referral services for a variety of social services available to senior adults in the community.
  • Prepares, coordinates, schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel.
  • Coordinates department activities with other divisions, departments and agencies as needed.
  • Gathers, interprets and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    • Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in recreation, geriatrics, social work or another closely related field OR, six (6) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
    • Two (2) years of experience working with seniors, one (1) of which included supervision.
    • A valid Washington State driver’s license, first aid and CPR certification are required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

    • Special events planning
    • Senior citizen services and needs.
    • Senior recreation philosophy, planning and administration;
    • The equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.
    • Supervisory practices
    • Oral and written communications.
    • Operation of a personal computer, including word processing and applicable software; office equipment; automobile or van.
    • Developing, coordinating and directing varied activities involved in a community seniors program;
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, Tribal and community leaders, Tribal members and the general public;
    • Communicating effectively orally and in writing;
    • Planning and supervising the work of paid staff and volunteers.
    • Coordinating and directing various activities and/or classes.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderate when in the field.
