- Proficiency in nuclear medicine imaging modalities and patient positioning
- Radiopharmaceutical preparation and safe handling
- Dose calibration and IV injection technique
- Daily QC and instrumentation testing
- Knowledge of state, federal, and OSHA regulations for radioisotope administration
- Experience with radiology information systems / electronic health records
- Strong documentation and billing accuracy skills
- BLS (AHA) certification and emergency response capability
Responsibilities
- Perform routine nuclear medicine imaging procedures consistent with departmental quality standards.
- Calibrate equipment and perform daily quality control tests on instrumentation and radiopharmaceuticals.
- Prepare and compound routine radiopharmaceuticals following manufacturer guidelines and administer patient doses with no misadministrations.
- Perform IV dose calibration and intravenous injections in compliance with physician orders and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor inventory and expiration dates for radioactive supplies and report shortages.
- Document procedures, maintain records, and prepare billing tickets with accurate patient demographics and procedure codes.
- Assist physicians during procedures, manage adverse reactions, and provide first aid as needed.
- Support cardiology during stress testing including electrode placement, blood pressure acquisition, and equipment operation.
- Instruct and orient new and less senior technologists in nuclear medicine policies, procedures, and specialized studies.
- Operate radiology/patient information systems per established standards and ensure data accuracy.
Education
- Successful completion of a formal Nuclear Medicine Technology program (AMA-approved)
- Certification by ARRT (N) or NMTCB
- American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS/CPR certification
