• Accountabilities:
• Develop and maintain robust software systems as part of a cross-functional team, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and reliable.
• Apply lean-agile engineering principles including API-first design, version control, automated testing, and continuous integration.
• Analyze systems to identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, or reliability issues, and design effective solutions.
• Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and engineers to translate user needs into functional and maintainable software.
• Select appropriate tools, frameworks, and technologies, with a preference for open-source solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
• Requirements:
• Proven experience writing clean, reusable, and high-quality code.
• Experience with large-scale production systems, emphasizing stability, performance, and reliability.
• Familiarity with secure software development practices and common vulnerability defenses.
• Foundational knowledge of data engineering and persistent data storage systems.
• Understanding of full software system architecture and integration, balancing performance and availability.
• Strong focus on user-centered development, anticipating the impact of code on end users.
• Ability to work effectively in a professional services or client-facing environment.
• Nice-to-have: cloud infrastructure experience, CI/CD best practices, infrastructure as code (Docker, Terraform), ETL pipelines, legacy Java systems, multiple programming languages, and prior civic tech experience.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship; some positions may require public trust or security clearance.
