Associate Director, Cloud Engineering

In this role, you will provide strategic and technical leadership for multiple cloud engineering teams, including Site Reliability Engineers, Systems Development Engineers, and platform engineers. You will drive initiatives that scale cloud-native platforms, enhance resilience, optimize costs, and improve operational excellence. This position requires balancing hands-on execution with high-level strategy, mentoring engineering managers, and aligning cloud initiatives with business and security objectives. You will oversee cloud architecture modernization, FinOps adoption, and incident management while fostering a high-performing, inclusive engineering culture. This remote-first role offers an environment to influence large-scale infrastructure decisions and advance cloud engineering practices across the organization.

• Accountabilities
• • Lead and mentor multiple cloud engineering teams, including direct managers and senior individual contributors.
• • Develop organizational structures and hiring strategies to scale engineering talent effectively.
• • Define and execute infrastructure platform roadmaps leveraging AWS-native and serverless technologies (Lambda, ECS, EKS, Step Functions).
• • Oversee high-severity incident management, ensuring postmortem analysis and systemic prevention practices.
• • Promote operational excellence by implementing observability, SLOs/SLIs, and resilience engineering principles.
• • Drive FinOps adoption, enforce cost governance, and partner with finance and product teams for budgeting and forecasting.
• • Collaborate with Security, Compliance, and cross-functional teams to maintain cloud governance, policy enforcement, and audit readiness.
• Requirements
• • 8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or SRE, including at least 3 years in leadership roles.
• • Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams in production AWS environments.
• • Expertise in cloud-native architectures, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation), and CI/CD automation.
• • Strong understanding of FinOps principles, cloud billing, and cost optimization strategies.
• • Experience with Agile software development practices, including Scrum.
• • Excellent communication and influencing skills; capable of engaging both executive stakeholders and technical teams.
• • Preferred: AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer), familiarity with SRE principles, regulatory environments (SOC2, PCI, HIPAA), and cloud modernization projects.
