Job Description

As a Creative Director, you will guide, manage, and elevate the creative function across Fortune Brands, bringing bold ideas to life through brand campaigns, digital content, retail experiences, packaging, and more. You will guide a multidisciplinary in-house team while helping to shape a modern creative model that acts as a strategic partner to Brands, Products, Channel Marketing, Sales, and Consumer Insights. Your work will influence everything from top-of-funnel storytelling to execution across eComm, social, and channel marketing platforms.

You’ll be instrumental in establishing a strategic approach—one that integrates creative thinking early in the process and delivers concept-to-execution work that resonates with consumers and drives business results. This role requires a creative with strong agency or in-house concepting experience, who can move seamlessly from ideation through production while mentoring a collaborative, high-performing team.

POSITION LOCATION:This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule based out of Deerfield, IL. Effective fall 2025, Fortune Brands will transition to a new world-class campus in Deerfield, bringing together associates from across our U.S. offices, brands, and functions. The campus will offer vibrant workspaces for collaboration, along with amenities for dining, onsite daycare, fitness and recreation.

What you will be doing:

Creative Leadership

  • Define and champion the creative vision across a portfolio of home, outdoor, and security brands.
  • Guide and manage concept development and storytelling across digital, social, video, eComm, packaging, retail, and experiential channels.
  • Build a culture of bold, inclusive, insight-led creative—raising the standard across the in-house team and agency partners.
  • Act as a brand steward, ensuring consistency, quality, and resonance in all consumer-facing work.
  • Serve as the creative lead for major campaigns and launches, from ideation through production.

Strategic Partnership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Brand and Channel Marketing, Product, Sales, and Insights teams to build consumer-led creative strategies that resonate and perform.
  • Collaborate with strategy and operations to establish smooth creative intake, briefing, and review processes.
  • Contribute to the internal agency structure, supporting workflow optimization and cross-functional alignment.
  • Guide, manage, and participate in creative reviews with a focus on clarity, quality, and shared goals.

Innovation & Execution

  • Embrace emerging creative technologies, including GenAI, to elevate ideation, content creation, and team capabilities.
  • Leverage performance data and consumer insights to improve creative relevance and outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning through team showcases, innovation sprints, and shared best practices.
  • Provide constructive direction and clear feedback throughout the creative development process.

Team Leadership & Growth

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a talented creative team across design, copy, video, and content disciplines.
  • Foster a supportive, high-performance environment that values diversity of thought, experimentation, and shared success.
  • Identify future needs, including creative opportunities by business unit as the function scales.
  • Present creative strategies and campaigns to senior stakeholders with confidence and clarity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Advertising, Communications, or a related field
  • 10+ years of creative leadership experience in an agency or in-house team
  • Experience managing brand campaigns across digital, social, video, packaging, retail, and eCommerce
  • Strong portfolio showcasing original, high-impact creative work
  • Experience managing and mentoring creative teams across multiple disciplines
  • Experience managing external vendors and production partners
  • Familiarity with creative tools and emerging technologies like GenAI

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or advanced training in a creative or marketing field
  • Experience with consumer brands in home, lifestyle, or design categories
  • Background in retail and packaging design
  • Experience building or working within an internal creative agency
  • Ability to apply data and consumer insights to inform creative direction

Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $90,000 USD - $130,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
