Director of Design, Women's Apparel and Accessories

Everlane is a clean-luxury apparel brand focused on ethical factories, premium sustainably sourced materials, and measurable improvements across the industry. The Director of Design, Women's Apparel and Accessories will lead a team of six to create commercially successful, timeless women’s wovens, knits, sweaters and accessories while driving short- and long-term product strategy in partnership with Merchandising, Technical Design, Sourcing and Production.

Skills

  • Deep technical knowledge of knitted fabrics, sweater yarns and woven fabrics
  • Italian tailoring and workmanship experience
  • Strong fit competency and concise, directive fitting leadership
  • Proven product development across knits, sweaters, wovens and accessories
  • Experience scaling private-label accessories (footwear, handbags, soft items)
  • Trend POV and commercial design sensibility
  • Vendor management and experience with off-shore/near-shore testing and production

Responsibilities

  • Lead seasonal product ideation and brainstorms with VP of Design and cross-functional partners
  • Design and develop core wovens, knits, sweaters and accessories from concept through pre-production
  • Initiate product and fabric development aligned to the company’s sustainability pipeline
  • Present quarterly sketch reviews and manage pipeline milestone check-ins with leadership
  • Provide clear, directive leadership during fittings to achieve elevated fit and Italian workmanship standards
  • Mentor and manage a design team of six, including career development and performance
  • Travel domestically and internationally for vendor direction, fabric shows and production oversight
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Technical Design, Sourcing, Production and peers across Women’s and Men’s design
  • Manage category calendar, budget and team activities in coordination with cross-functional leads

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Textile Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Professional portfolio demonstrating womenswear, knitwear and accessory design and technical execution
