Electrical Design Engineer - Contract

Electrical Design Engineer (Contract) - Kalamazoo, MI

DISHER is partnering with a customer seeking a high level electrical design engineer to mature the electrical design of an existing prototype design. Including: PCBAs, wire harnesses, and electrical off-the-shelf components to be ready for manufacturing and design verification. This is a year long contract position.

• Update schematics and layouts to align with design improvements and feedback.
• Develop electrical stack ups and run circuit simulations of filters when necessary.
• Apply design techniques for EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and manufacturability, including sourcing and testing approaches.
• Create comprehensive electrical requirements and design verification test protocols.
• Conduct design failure mode, effects, and criticality analyses (dFMECA) for the electrical design.
• Prepare detailed engineering descriptions and documentation for the electrical systems.
• Develop production PCBA test specifications, such as in-circuit testing (ICT) and functional circuit testing (FCT).
• Produce a thorough EMC/Wireless test plan and facilitate the definition of software features required for design and production verification.
• Support EMC/Wireless development testing in collaboration with EMC lab.

• Collaborate with mechanical engineering teams to integrate electrical components, including wire harness routing and PCBA placement.
• Provide interface documentation and technical guidance when integrating with other electrical designs.
• Perform benchtop testing and evaluations as needed.

• Proficiency in active and passive filter design, analog-to-digital conversion, and DC-DC regulator design.
• Strong experience in designing with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and USB.
• Deep understanding and application of EMC and design-for-test principles.
• Ability to write precise electrical requirements and validation/verification test protocols.
• Demonstrated skill with electrical CAD tools (especially Altium) and experience with industry-standard PLM and collaboration platforms.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills for creating clear engineering descriptions, test plans, and interface documents.
• A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to supporting multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers and safety/testing engineers.
• Adaptability in learning and using new engineering software and simulation tools as needed.
• Critical thinking in benchtop evaluation, troubleshooting, and implementing feedback swiftly.
• Commitment to design quality, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance throughout the product development lifecycle.
