Overview:
The Payroll Tax Specialist is a key player in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our U.S. payroll operations. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of all payroll tax-related tasks, including but not limited to, the timely and precise processing of tax filings and remittances, the diligent resolution of any variances, and the effective management of agency notices and payments. The specialist will also handle state and local tax registrations to ensure our company remains compliant in every jurisdiction. This position requires a strong drive for operational excellence, as payroll accuracy is critical to maintaining a high level of employee engagement and satisfaction here at Deel.
What You'll Do
Manage and process timely tax deposits and filings, adhering to deadlines and regulatory requirements.
Resolve quarter-end variances and establish scalable operational frameworks and SOPs
Identify and implement improvements in tax operations, including corrections and amendments.
First line of contact for federal, state, and local tax notices.
Investigate and resolve tax discrepancies.
Maintain communication with tax authorities and minimize errors impacting tax notices.
Communicate and collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely payments.
Proactively address payroll tax inquiries.
Collaborate with internal teams and escalate issues as necessary.
Lead Year-End process through auditing and balancing all reports to ensure filings are complete, correct, and timely
Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and ensure accounts are in good standing
Action notices received from agencies, research and resolution.
Collaborate with the US Payroll Team to develop and implement the operational foundational structure, workflows, and processes for the US payroll and tax management.
Conduct quality checks on payroll tax configurations to ensure accuracy
Identify and drive improvements across all critical tax operations processes, including payroll corrections and amendments
What You'll Need:
Minimum of five (5) years experience of tax resolution (filing, remitting, balancing)
Minimum of three (3) years of US payroll processing experience
Experience using MasterTax software required
CPP or similar certification is required
Experience with state/entity registration required
Comfortable working with large datasets
Proven experience in payroll tax compliance and tax notice resolution
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
Experience working in enterprise payroll technology such as Workday, Deel, SAP, ADP, etc is highly preferred
Working knowledge of accounting principles, ability to understand impact of payroll activity on financial statements and effectively partner with Finance in analyzing and explaining P&L and Balance sheet variances.
Proficiency in Google Suite, specifically Sheets, Documents, and Slides highly preferred.
Ability to use mathematics to problem solve.
Ability to use logic and reasoning to approach problems, analyze solutions, and reach conclusions.
Able to work independently with minimal guidance and able to work as part of a team.
Excellent customer service/communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment without loss of accuracy of work product and output.
