Our client is an interdisciplinary construction, mining, engineering, and management firm headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee. We are one of the most respected and reliable organizations in the industry. Since 1989, we have partnered with municipal, state, federal, and private clients to complete projects of all sizes. We pride ourselves in providing high-quality projects on schedule and within budget.

We are seeking an Estimator to join our growing Estimating team. The Junior Estimator will support the estimating process for water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and civil construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual eager to develop their skills and gain valuable experience in the estimation field. The Junior Estimator will assist in preparing accurate cost estimates, evaluating project bids, and collaborating with senior estimators to ensure our projects are competitively priced and financially viable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Estimation: Assist in preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for various aspects of construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Bid Preparation: Help create comprehensive bid proposals by analyzing project specifications, blueprints, and other related documents. Ensure that bids are submitted on time and reflect all necessary project details.
  • Quantity Takeoff: Perform quantity takeoffs from project plans and specifications to estimate material and labor requirements accurately.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing, availability, and other project-related information. Maintain a list of potential vendors and subcontractors to support the bidding process.
  • Cost Analysis: Review and analyze historical cost data to ensure that estimates are based on current market conditions and reflect the latest trends in material and labor costs.
  • Value Engineering: Assist senior estimators in identifying opportunities for cost-saving measures, such as alternative materials, methods, or design solutions that can provide better value without compromising project quality.
  • Documentation: Ensure that all estimates, reports, and documentation are properly filed, updated, and stored in the company’s estimating system for future reference.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks related to the cost and schedule of projects and work with senior estimators to develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the project management, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure that estimates align with the overall project scope and objectives.
  • Reporting: Assist in providing regular updates to senior management regarding project bids, estimates, and any changes in project scope or costs.
  • Site Visits: Participate in site visits to assess existing conditions and gather information to refine estimates.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in construction estimation or a related role, preferably in the water/wastewater treatment, pump stations, or civil construction sectors.
  • Basic knowledge of construction processes, materials, and methods, particularly within water/wastewater treatment and civil construction projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, HCSS, or similar tools) is a plus.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: Associate Estimator certification (AACE, AIA, or similar) is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge: Basic understanding of local construction codes and regulations, particularly in the water/wastewater industry.
  • Technical Proficiency: Exposure to project management or estimating software tools is highly desirable.

Benefits

  • Opportunities for career advancement and professional development.
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale, impactful infrastructure projects.
