NYCHA’s Learning and Development (L&D) Department provides service coordination and delivery of training and professional development for NYCHA employees to do their jobs safely and effectively. Through operation of citywide training facilities, and a robust library of online learning materials, NYCHA L&D offers both technical training in building systems management, and leadership development courses that are customized based on NYCHA standard operating procedures. L&D’s mission is to prepare NYCHA employees for the roles they’re in, and the roles they aspire to attain, while managing the wealth of knowledge that employees amass throughout their careers.
Reporting to the Administrator of the Maintenance Training Unit, the Technical Trainer (Maintenance), is responsible for facilitating a variety of training courses designed to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of NYCHA employees, primarily but not exclusively Maintenance Workers. This position focuses on training related to NYCHA standards and procedures specific to maintenance operations, property management supervision, and building operations. The ideal candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality professional development opportunities that ensure employees can perform their duties safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant standards.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Instructor-led Training Sessions: Lead lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises with adult learners, both in the classroom and on-site at NYCHA developments, on building maintenance procedures.
2. Technical Support: Provide end-user support and troubleshooting guidance for maintenance operations.
3. Training Content Creation: Collaborate in the design and development of instructional materials, including writing and revising training manuals, taking photos or video of hands-on training demonstrations, translating technical content into plain language to enhance training effectiveness.
4. Training Comprehension and Needs Analysis: Perform assessments and evaluations to determine training comprehension and needs, including conducting surveys, focus groups, and analyzing feedback to create tailored training programs.
5. Special Projects: Participate in special projects as required, ensuring project goals are met and support is provided where needed.
6. Supervision: Supervise new Maintenance Workers and related staff while in training; perform other related duties as required.
