Connections Director

Church of the City New York is seeking a ministry leader with strong relational and organizational gifts to guide people along the pathway from their first visit to their next step in discipleship. This role plays a key part in advancing our mission “to see lost New Yorkers far from God transformed into compelling missional disciples.”

The Connections Director will build culture, teams, and systems that ensure every person has a clear and accessible next step—whether joining a group, serving, or engaging deeper in the life of the church.

The ideal candidate will be a gifted connector and team builder, able to create systems that foster belonging and discipleship. They’ll recruit and equip volunteers, strengthen next-step processes, and collaborate with ministries across COTC to ensure a consistent and welcoming experience for all.

Role Summary

Lead the people-pathway at Church of the City New York from first visit to next step in discipleship. This role builds culture, teams, and systems that ensure every person has a clear opportunity to engage, belong, and grow, this includes but is not limited to:

  • Grow and disciple a volunteer team that understands their purpose, serves with excellence, and sustains a healthy culture of care and connection.
  • Lead and invest in a high-capacity lay leadership team responsible for Sunday execution, volunteer culture-building, and onboarding new volunteers.
  • Maintain and interpret an engagement dashboard to track movement from first-time attendance through Welcome to Church, courses, groups, and serving opportunities.
  • Share dashboard insights with relevant ministries to inform strategy and support data-driven decisions.
  • Own and execute Welcome to Church events in collaboration with Events and Ministries teams to provide clear next steps for attendees.
  • Manage core engagement platforms, including Clearstream communications, Planning Center workflows and lists, and QR Code Generator Pro.
  • Spearhead periodic engagement initiatives to activate and deploy unengaged attendees into next steps such as serving or group involvement.
  • Collaborate across ministries to ensure alignment of engagement pathways with the vision and mission of Church of the City New York.
  • Adhere to and encompass the qualities and characteristics required of Church of the City New York Staff Members, as defined by the Staff Handbook.
  • A Christian in submission to the authority of the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, as evident in lifestyle. Subscribes to and is in full agreement with the Church of the City’s Statement of Faith.
  • A builder who can create and improve systems, not just maintain them.
  • A leader of volunteers, not just a doer.
  • Someone who is strategic and spiritually mature, combining people skills with process thinking.
  • Someone who embodies our mission to make compelling missional disciples out of lost New Yorkers far from God.
