Community Group Coordinator

Church of the City New York is seeking a coordinator with strong relational and organizational gifts to equip our community groups for disciple-making. This role is essential to advancing our mission “to see lost New Yorkers far from God transformed into compelling missional disciples” by fostering healthy, multiplying groups that embody our church’s vision for community and discipleship.

The Community Groups Coordinator will support the CG Pastor through leader recruitment, onboarding, and equipping processes; assist with communication and care for group leaders; and manage the Planning Center database for all groups and connection spaces across COTC NYC. This role ensures that every group leader is resourced, connected, and aligned with the church’s mission and rhythms.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive, relational self-starter who has personally experienced and led in the context of community groups. They will have a heart for discipleship, a strong administrative skill set, and a clear understanding that community groups exist to form missional disciples in the heart of New York City.

Role Summary

Support the mission of Church of the City New York by cultivating healthy, multiplying community groups that form compelling missional disciples across the city. This role combines relational care, administrative excellence, and strategic coordination to ensure every group leader and participant is equipped for meaningful discipleship and connection.

  • Build a culture—and supporting systems—to multiply community groups across all boroughs of NYC
  • Collaborate with the Community Groups Pastor to equip leaders through the CG Leadership Podcast and leadership events
  • Regularly connect with group leaders to provide care, coaching, and discipleship, ensuring healthy leaders who multiply healthy disciples
  • Execute and manage Planning Center administration for all groups and connection spaces, including new group setup, event management, and attendance tracking
  • Manage the workflow of CG leadership applications, interviews, and reference checks
  • Oversee the administrative elements of the seasonal CG Leadership Development Course
  • Organize and maintain leadership communication, participation, and shared CG-related Google documents
  • Oversee the health and growth of CORE groups, connection groups, and other thematic-based communities
  • Adhere to and embody the qualities and characteristics required of Church of the City New York Staff Members, as defined by the Staff Handbook
  • A spiritually mature Christian in submission to the authority of Scripture and the Holy Spirit, modeling the heart of a Biblical Acts 6 servant; subscribes to and is in full agreement with Church of the City’s Statement of Faith
  • A builder who can create, implement, and refine systems—not just maintain them
  • Administratively skilled and comfortable with scheduling tools, Planning Center, Google Suite, Zoom, and team communication platforms
  • Strategic and spiritually grounded, able to combine strong relational instincts with process-oriented thinking
  • A disciple-maker who is confident in mentoring and developing community group leaders
  • Experienced in urban ministry contexts, particularly within secular, postmodern environments and multiethnic congregations
  • Salary Range $65,000-$80,000
  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Health Savings Account
  • Pre-tax travel benefit
  • Retirement Plan (403b)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Personal Days, Safe & Sick and Holidays)
  • Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
  • Training & Development
