The J7-3 Cardiology Stepdown Unit is for patients with heart issues that are about to have procedures such as open-heart surgery and pacemaker implantation. If you are looking for ample learning opportunities, this is a great place to work because of the comorbidities (the presence of two or more diseases or medical conditions in a patient). With a strong focus on providing psychological safety, this unit's team of caregivers are well supported and team oriented. This is an excellent opportunity for a nursing student as this is a PRN position that offers a flexible schedule and allows for a balance between school, work and life.
A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation, 7:00AM—7:30PM or 7:00PM—7:30AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
Document in patients’ medical records.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) Certification upon or within first year of hire in Critical Care, ED or Special Delivery
Completion of an ONS Chemo/Bio Course within two years of hire in units where chemo is administered
Completion of a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) upon or within one year of hire in Dedicated Trauma Centers and ED
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Provider Status Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of hire for NICU
Cancer-specific certification or demonstrated ongoing qualifying education in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Cancer Center or Cancer Clinic and/or Chemotherapy
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within one year of hire in ED settings
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
