Summary:
The Executive Director of Intelligence & Innovation (I&I) sits within the Global Pricing & Health Systems Analytics team, as part of the Market Access organization. This critical role leads a high-performing team to (1) Curate intelligence on the evolving market access and pricing landscape and drive internal awareness, understanding, and thought leadership, providing strategic perspectives on market changes to the organization and rapidly responding to senior leadership queries, (2) Strategically incubate innovative and transformative access and pricing approaches and solutions for BMS in anticipation of industry shifts and evolving business needs, (3) Shepherd the market access organization’s digital transformation, to implement and embed tech-driven and AI solutions into the organization in a disciplined and practical way.
This role serves as a strategic advisor to the Market Access organization and BMS senior leadership team on the access and pricing landscape and is responsible for developing and embedding transformative innovations to build BMS’ market access organization for the future
Responsibilities:
Serve as a thought leader and strategic advisor to senior leaders on trends and innovation in the pricing and reimbursement / access space
Proactively identify and translate market insights into strategic perspectives and actionable recommendations for senior leadership, incl. serving as an “early warning system” on opportunities / challenges and teeing up potential ways to address (e.g., developing solutions with relevant stakeholders)
Develop and implement strategic thinking frameworks (e.g., scenario simulations, blind spot analysis) to systematically develop strategic perspectives and interpret MAx implications of access and pricing landscape changes
Ensure timely and accurate dissemination and interpretation of relevant pricing and market access trends to internal teams (e.g., via executive briefings)
Rapidly provide thorough and insightful analyses and perspectives in response to specific queries, ensuring clarity and strategic relevance
Lead a dynamic team and oversee the systematic monitoring of market trends, competitor activities, and news within the global market access and pricing landscape
Build and maintain a prioritization framework to focus attention on the trends/intelligence areas most relevant for BMS’ current and future portfolio
Develop and maintain a robust system for tracking and analyzing market developments (e.g., sources, tools, analytics, processes)
Design and maintain an info-base of the latest innovations, trends, and disruptions to enable quick responses to specific queries
Manage and develop the I&I team, including hiring, managing team scope and capacity, and creating growth opportunities for all team members
Proactively incubate novel opportunities for BMS to experiment, innovate, and lead in market access, across a spectrum of payor/ reimbursement models, value-based pricing approaches, GTN management, contracting, customer engagement, and new channels
Define targeted innovation areas / themes that align with overall BMS and Market Access organization goals
Develop and implement a robust and efficient process to assess, (where necessary) pilot, and adopt innovative models, including the governance process with market access and brand leaders
Guide the I&I team to systematically generate and assess innovative and transformative ideas / initiatives, based on anticipated industry trends or business needs; ensure ongoing initiatives are cohesively incorporated into the innovation process
Develop pilot programs to test and embed new models into BMS, in collaboration with other market access and brand teams. Ensure team acts as a source of institutional knowledge and experience, so that learnings are carried forward and leveraged to accelerate adoption of innovative practices.
As a core member of the Global Pricing & Health Systems Leadership Team, work closely with stakeholders across functions (e.g., US Pricing, ex-US Pricing, Global Health Systems Analytics, Government Pricing & Contract Operations) to inform priority areas
Partner with broader Market Access and other functions (e.g., Commercial, Development, Finance, Legal, BI&T) to gather input, generate awareness, support, and resources for innovative ideas and pilot initiatives
In partnership with the BMS digital organization and external thought leaders and technical experts, scout for relevant and applicable external technologies / solutions
Engage non-traditional customers and stakeholders (e.g., benefit consultants, alternative pharmacy benefit managers, healthcare system innovation leads, startups), to develop deeper understanding of patient pathways and value in customer systems/ channels, and solve new model challenges that were previously not identified
Shepherd the Market Access organization’s digital transformation to implement and embed practical new digital/AI innovations into the organization, in collaboration with the BI&T teams. Consider AI innovations that are descriptive (i.e., summarization of information, answering data questions), analytic (i.e., analysis of historical trends), and eventually build predictive capabilities (e.g., anticipating competitor behavior/strategy
Act as proactive and vocal subject matter expert and trusted partner to other relevant stakeholders (e.g., Global Policy, Government Affairs) to predict impact of macro environment developments (MFN, Tariffs, etc.) on global pricing and competitors’ reactions to these developments
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree plus advanced scientific, MBA, or health economics degree/experience
Minimum 12-15 years pharmaceutical industry; at least, 5-8 years direct experience in Commercial, Market access, and/or Pricing, or Pharma Competitive Intelligence experience, with experience in both US and International markets
Experience in Market Access, Brand / Pricing strategy or implementation
Preferred experience in management consulting or finance / investment banking / venture capital
Working knowledge of government affairs and policy
Senior-level leadership experience, and ability to influence and interface at senior levels, as a thought-leader in the organization; well-developed presentation skills and demonstrated confidence to convey succinct and impactful executive-level messaging to inform positions and decisions
Exceptionally strong strategic thinking skills and ability to apply in a variety of complex business situations, incl. track record of translating market trends into specific implications for the portfolio, the company, and individual brands
Proven ability to lead and provide growth opportunities for a team of high-performing individuals; strong command of analytics, pricing, financial modeling, incl. accountability to deliver robust high-quality outputs
Familiarity with and openness to adoption of artificial intelligence and digital transformation efforts; demonstratable experience of championing novel approaches that increase effectiveness and accelerate time to impact

Compensation Overview:
The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
