Position Summary

The Discovery Biotherapeutics group at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) in San Diego is focused on advancing the next generation of biotherapeutic drugs through innovative antibody engineering and translational research. We are seeking motivated, independent, and detail-oriented undergraduate students to join our full-time, paid 10-week Summer Intern program in antibody drug discovery. This hands-on research opportunity is ideal for students who have completed at least two years of a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution and are attending schools within commuting distance of the La Jolla area. The intern associates will contribute to the design, production, characterization, and functional testing of large molecules, including the development of antibody-based therapies. The role offers exposure to cutting-edge technologies and collaborative research in a dynamic biopharma environment.

The full-time internship will take place June - August 2026.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a foundational understanding of antibody design and engineering principles.

• Collaborate with scientists to design and execute experiments.
• Practice sterile cell culture techniques and perform antibody expression/ purification, and characterization.
• Review scientific literature relevant to antibody biology and engineering strategies
• Actively engage in scientific discussions, presentations and meetings.
• Accurately document experimental procedures, results, and analyses in laboratory notebooks in a timely and detailed manner.

Qualifications & Experience

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university, with at least two years of completed coursework.
• Prior laboratory experience in and/or outside of academic course work
• Strong interest in antibody engineering, and therapeutic drug discovery.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
• All candidates must be authorized to work in the US both at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment. Please note that immigration or visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

This is a temporary, time-bound position intended for the duration of the internship or co-op program. Employment in this role does not imply or guarantee ongoing or permanent employment with BMS.

The starting hourly compensation for this assignment is within the range of $27.00 to $29.00/hr. Please note that the final individual compensation and any applicable benefits will be determined by your employer of record (and not BMS). Factors influencing this decision may include the characteristics of the assignment, such as demonstrated experience, required skill, and the geographic location of the job. Compensation details are subject to change.

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Site-essential roles require 100% of shifts onsite at your assigned facility. Site-by-design roles may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at your assigned facility.
