Job Description

Leadership Program Coordinator - Sorensen Center

The vision of the Sorensen Center for Moral and Ethical Leadership (SC) is to inspire and equip individuals to lead people as Jesus Christ does. We develop leaders with character and capability who edify families, congregations, communities, organizations, and society. The Leadership Programming Coordinator has primary responsibility for creating, planning, implementing, and evaluating department and university-level events, conferences, activities, etc. This position will be responsible for mentoring, training, and providing policy and procedure education for student employees and possible program volunteers. This role is highly collaborative, working with relevant faculty, administrators, campus services, student employees, and student participants. This position will also (1) provide the necessary support, expertise, and perspective to develop student leaders and their opportunities for meaningful involvement and engagement, (2) assist student employees to effectively and appropriately navigate university policy and procedure, and (3) facilitate the creation of networks and communities on campus.

Education:

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree

Education Preferred: Master’s degree related to Student Affairs

Experience:

Minimum Experience Required: 1-3 years student affairs experience in higher education

Preferred Experience: 3+ years student affairs experience in higher education

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

· Ability to collaborate, cooperate, and establish a dialogue with campus administrators, faculty members, and departments

· Ability to connect Sorensen Center activities, events, and efforts to the larger concept of experiential learning

· Ability to connect with, relate to, and establish appropriate boundaries with university students

· Ability to create, establish, and carry-out a vision

· Ability to establish effective accountability measures, including effective goal-setting, follow-up, and success indicators

· Capability to balance: individual student needs, multiple programs, deadlines, colleague needs and relationships, and departmental assignments and responsibilities

· Commitment to cultivating a sense of belonging

· Demonstrated ability to teach, train, and mentor students

· Effective written and verbal communication skills

· Experience with problem-solving and ability to exercise sound judgment

· Experience with supervision and management

· Knowledge of, and ability to, operationalize theories, strategies, and best practices related to teamwork

· Mentor each student employee and volunteer in student affairs theory and practice; customer service; evaluation, assessment, and implementation; collaborative efforts; budget creation and management; and navigating university environment

· Operate effectively under pressure

· Project, budget and administer area/program allocations

· Receptive and responsive to feedback

· Technical and computer skills, including: word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and record keeping

Preferred:

· Ability to navigate associated challenges and opportunities when creating an environment of belonging, where people of varied backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, life experiences, and perspectives can thrive

· Advanced technical and computer skills in website design, graphic design, coding, statistical software, etc.

· Experience with evaluation, assessment, and implementation

· Knowledge of, and ability to operationalize, student development and student affairs theories and best practices

· Knowledge of, and ability to, operationalize theories, strategies, and best practices in branding, marketing, and public relations

· Research and operationalize student affairs and student development news and trends, academic publications, and best practices

· Teach and train holistic student affairs skills and practice, namely: advisement, teaching, facilitation, leadership and followership, and interpersonal communication

· Understanding of and ability to apply university policy and procedure

· Understanding of legal and liability issues as they relate to department programs, events, and services and ramifications for student participants, volunteers, and employees

· Understanding of marketing and finance principles

Pay Grade: 52

Typical Starting Pay: $63,500.00-$82,500.00
