Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related dutites may be assigned.
Manages maintenance schedule for light vehicles, and heavy equipment, i.e., aerial tower, boom trucks, cable pullers, diggers, trans dollies, etc.
Schedules Structural Di-Electric test for boom trucks, aerial tower trucks, etc.
Tracks downtime and coordinate unscheduled maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment.
Schedules regular maintenance on all types of equipment.
Transport vehicles / equipment to and from the appropriate service centers
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Ability to follow oral and written directives.
Ability to maintain good working relationships with customers and service center personnel.
Ability to operate a computer, including knowledge of databases and E-mail.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years experience in a field related to the job
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Appropriate Texas Drivers License.
Applicant must either possess the appropriate Commercial Drivers License (CDL), or must obtain an appropriate CDL within 120 days of employment with the City.
Preferred Qualifications:
Utility fleet and equipment experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Experience with fleet maintenance scheduling software or asset management systems.
Mechanical knowledge of motorized vehicles and hydraulically driven mounted equipment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple schedules.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear updates to internal customers
Austin Energy is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Vehicle Scheduler II to coordinate the maintenance, testing, and transportation of our utility’s vehicles and heavy equipment. This role plays a critical part in keeping our fleet operational and safe, ensuring that all preventive and corrective maintenance is scheduled, tracked, and communicated effectively. This role works closely with service centers, technicians, and internal customers, providing updates on equipment status and ensuring compliance with City and federal safety standards. This position is designated as essential, meaning it is part of the team ensuring Austin Energy’s 24/7 operations continue during weather events and other emergencies.
Key responsibilities may include:
Managing and coordinating maintenance schedules for light vehicles and heavy equipment, including structural dielectric testing and preventive maintenance. Overseeing downtime tracking and unscheduled repairs, arranging transport of vehicles to service centers, and maintaining electronic log devices. Maintaining updated contact lists and providing timely communication on repair status. Attending safety and technical training sessions, and ensuring all work complies with DOT and City of Austin standards.
Pay Range: Entry: $22.22 - Mid: $24.77
Schedule: Monday - Friday: 6:30AM - 3:30PM

Work Schedule:
This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin.
Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends and may include on-call shifts.
Shifts may change according to departmental needs.
Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.
Commercial Driver's License:
This position requires a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License or the ability to acquire one within 90 days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Job offer may be contingent on passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test and thereafter, comply with Department of Transportation, Federal Regulations and the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing rules as outlined by the City of Austin Drug and Alcohol Policy for Drivers of Commercial Motor Vehicles.
