Public Health Program Coordinator
Purpose:
Under general direction or working independently, administer and coordinate activities of an assigned public health and/or human services program area.
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Plans goals, objectives, for assigned programs.
Develops policies and procedures.
Evaluates programs to determine compliance with Federal, State, Local, and departmental regulations.
Develops and conducts orientation and training sessions for program staff.
Assists in budget preparation.
Promotes assigned programs through relevant media.
Investigates client or community complaints.
Handles personnel issues
Performs other tasks as required.
May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of the area of specialization.
Knowledge of current principles and practices of planning and program implementation.
Knowledge of organization and administration of public health and/or human service programs.
Knowledge of program monitoring and policy analysis.
Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
Skill in establishing effective and constructive working relationships.
Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus four (4) years of experience in a field related to public health/human services programming, public health/human services planning, or public health/human services program management.
Related experience may substitute for education up to a maximum substitution of four (4) years.
Graduation with a master's degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for one (1) year of the required work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience developing and coordinating public health programs
Experience with policy, systems, and environmental change interventions, worksite wellness programs, healthy eating programs/policies, school or early childhood interventions, or tobacco prevention and control.
Ability to market programs and communicate with decision makers to increase program uptake
Experience managing large projects and collaborative efforts
Ability to travel to more than one work location.
Position Overview
This position is subject matter expert on worksite wellness and provides technical assistance to worksites on the implementation of policies, programs and environmental changes to support chronic disease prevention, such as nutrition, mother-friendly, and tobacco prevention and control policies. This position plans and coordinates a minimum of four (4) meetings of the Austin Business Group on Health to share best practices for comprehensive worksite wellness programs. This position works with schools, school districts/school health advisory councils, and early childhood education centers to improve policies and programs for prevention of chronic disease. This position partners with the Mayors Health and Wellbeing Council (MHFC) by providing program development, implementation, and evaluation of programs to encourage healthy workplaces and schools. This position coordinates large-scale meetings and events including a yearly awards ceremony for schools and workplaces that obtain health recognition and serves as social media coordinator for chronic disease prevention unit.

Min 57,970 - Mid 70,720 Annually

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eligible for Hybrid Schedule with management approval

This position is eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSF) Program. This federal program is intended to encourage individuals to work in public service by forgiving the balance of their federal student loans. To qualify, the individual must have made 120 qualifying payments while employed by a qualifying employer.

Travel
If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
