Vice President, Merchandising - NAM

Your opportunity at ARC’TERYX:

As the Vice President, Merchandising – NAM, you set the long-term regional merchandising vision and strategy for North America. You provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of senior leaders, accountable for driving the creation, development and execution of our regional assortment and line plan strategies. You play a central role in guiding the representation of our product experience through all channels and you build the strategies and tactics to accelerate our North American business. Your work integrates the brand’s design vision while delivering best in class sales, inventory and margin results, further solidifying Arc’teryx as a world class retailer.


This role will be based out of our North Vancouver or Portland office and is open to hybrid work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada or the United States.


Meet your future team:

The Merchant team is responsible for delivering regional, seasonal product assortments that support the overall global product direction. In partnership with the Product Line Management (PLM) team, Merchants drive company sales, gross margin, and inventory productivity goals, in both our wholesale and vertical channels. This high performing team works closely with the Commercial and Merchandise Planning and Allocations (MP&A) teams to create future seasonal line plans and to maximize in-season sales performance.


If you were the Vice President, Merchandising now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:
  • Setting the long term vision and merchandising strategies for the North American region
  • Overseeing a team of Merchants who execute the regional strategies for the North American market; planning for long term glide path, seasonal line plans and monthly flow to all channels
  • Leading the creation of a regional product framework and assortment structure that guides merchant execution within retail stores, ecommerce channels and wholesale in order to maximize sales, profit and global brand positioning
  • Collaborating closely with Merchandising and PLM leadership to ensure that regional needs are incorporated into the global line plan
  • Collaborating with and supporting leadership to identify areas of process improvement, business calendar and team structure requirements
  • Partnering closely with cross-functional partners in Brand Marketing, Digital, Retail and Commercial teams to ensure our creative vision and merchandising strategies are coming to life with the guest
  • Upholding Fair Labor Association’s Workplace Code of Conduct and Principles of Fair Labor and Responsible Sourcing, throughout the Arc’teryx supply chain

Are you our next Vice President, Merchandising?
  • You have a degree and 15+ years’ experience in merchandising with a product-led brands, and 10+ years’ experience leading a team
  • You are product-obsessed, with a drive for understanding the “why” behind new products, and an unparallel capacity for product knowledge, with a complete understanding of the product lifecycle process
  • You are an inspiring leader that communicates compelling, consumer-centric product framework plans, articulated through product operations and merchandising execution
  • You have expertise in driving strategy, line planning and line architecture
  • You have a proven track record in developing and leading the execution of a multi-year business strategy and collaborating with senior stakeholders
  • You set a clear vision, align your team around common objectives, and foster commitment to these objectives
  • You are an influential leader; possessing high emotional intelligence, with the ability to drive alignment across diverse cross-functional groups at all levels of the business
  • You have strong business acumen with the ability to lead in a complex matrix business environment
  • You thrive on building relationships and creating partnerships across the organization
  • You have proven people leadership skills and the ability to build, coach and guide a diverse and high performing team
  • You demonstrate tireless integrity in driving excellence to milestones and deliverables
  • You have a strong understanding of outdoor apparel marketplace
  • You flourish in a fast-growth, entrepreneurial environment and thrive on contributing to our brand and team’s evolution
  • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions
  • You have the ability and willingness to travel internationally
  • You seek the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions, with an unwavering commitment to do what is right

$224,000 - $308,000 a year
A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$224,000 - CAD$308,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training. The upper end of the range is typically reserved for candidates with demonstrated expertise that is above job requirements or who bring exceptional directly transferable experience.
Please note that the range details above reflect the base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program and benefits that we offer.
