Skills
- Deep knowledge of statics, solid mechanics, materials, and dynamics
- Experience with aeroelasticity and coupled aero-structural analysis (flutter, aeroelastic effects)
- Proficiency with FEM tools (FEMAP and Nastran)
- Experience developing and pacing integrated FEMs for flight hardware
- Structural and flight test experience: sensor selection, data acquisition, and post-processing (Python preferred)
- Experience developing analytical models in MATLAB and/or Python
- Ability to develop loads and margin philosophy for certification
Responsibilities
- Perform first-principles hand calculations, spreadsheets, and MATLAB/Python first-order models to guide design decisions.
- Develop and communicate structural loads and margins for aircraft and missile subsystems.
- Generate, maintain, and pace integrated finite element models for flying vehicles.
- Perform coupled aero-structural analyses including flutter and aeroelastic assessments.
- Support structural certification and compliance efforts (customer standards such as SEEK EAGLE, FAR, or internally defined criteria).
- Create test models, define test loads and requirements, and oversee structural testing across design phases.
- Develop internal tools and reports to communicate loads and analysis results across teams.
- Present technical status, risks, and inputs at formal internal and customer reviews.
Education
- BS or higher in engineering or a hard science with focus in structures
- Technical background in aerospace structures, materials, or mechanical engineering
- Able to obtain and hold U.S. Top Secret security clearance
