Sr. ATAK Engineer
Skills
- Proficiency with Android development (Jetpack Compose, XML, Java, Kotlin)
- Experience building high-traffic, data-intensive, map-based UI systems
- Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/UDP/Multicast, HTTP/REST) and RPCs (protobuf/gRPC)
- API design for real-time telemetry and control
- Experience with FMV/streaming, sensor integration, and real-time data flows
- Ability to communicate trade-offs and collaborate across cross-functional teams
- Experience with build/tooling ecosystems (CMake, Gradle, Cargo, Docker, CI systems)
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and deploy real-time map-based Android user interfaces via the ATAK plugin ecosystem
- Define and implement network and telemetry APIs for asset configuration, sensor/payload control, FMV streaming, and autonomous tasking
- Collaborate with chief engineers, product designers, program managers, flight test engineers, and end users to iterate on UX and system requirements
- Develop high-performance backend and middleware components supporting Android clients using languages like Java, Kotlin, C++, or Rust
- Integrate with ATAK SDK and participate in the TAK developer community
- Validate software using simulations, benchtop hardware, and live flight testing; support bug fixes and field deployments
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field preferred; equivalent practical experience accepted
