Senior Orbital Mission Software Engineer, Space
Skills
- Proficiency in multiple languages: Python, C++, Rust, or Go
- Experience with spacecraft software systems, satellite operations, and on-orbit autonomy
- Strong system-level architecture and the ability to navigate complex, multi-component systems
- Experience designing fault isolation, recovery, and autonomous mission behaviors
- Familiarity with deployment tooling and container orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift, Helm)
- Clear technical communication, documentation, and training skills
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Responsibilities
- Own architecture and delivery of software deployed to customer spacecraft and mission systems
- Design, develop, and maintain on-orbit software capabilities enabling end-to-end mission systems
- Integrate new capabilities with legacy space systems and multi-domain platforms
- Write production-quality code to scale mission capability across users and customers
- Collaborate cross-functionally with platform, payload, and operations teams
- Create and analyze operational metrics for debugging, monitoring, and reliability
- Triage incidents, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate remediation
- Partner with mission operators and end-users to translate needs into features
Education
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related engineering field (BS or higher)
- Strong engineering background from industry or academic research in relevant disciplines
