Airworthiness Engineer
Skills
- Extensive experience with DoD and FAA airworthiness policies, processes, and MIL-HDBK-516 series
- Proven background with manned or UAS developmental military aircraft certification
- Experience developing and managing airworthiness plans and tracking certification criteria
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication for technical subjects
- Familiarity with MATLAB, JIRA, DOORS, MS Office, CATIA, 3DX
- Ability to perform system-level analyses, requirements allocation, and risk assessments
- Experience interfacing with DoD/FAA airworthiness authorities and customers
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain U.S. Top Secret security clearance
Responsibilities
- Develop and author airworthiness certification and conformance plans supporting Flight Releases, Type Certification, tailored airworthiness, and FAA integration.
- Perform technical airworthiness planning, tracking, and verification in a digital environment, including bases of certification and means of compliance.
- Coordinate and cultivate airworthiness relationships across engineering disciplines, customers, DoD, and FAA authorities.
- Lead technical reviews, requirements allocation, functional/process analyses, and translate customer requirements into certification criteria.
- Continuously update airworthiness plans throughout the product lifecycle and support Airworthiness Boards, technical interchange meetings, and risk assessments.
- Support design development toward airworthiness compliance and activities leading to Military Flight Release (MFR) issuance.
- Maintain airworthiness activities interconnected with system requirements, schedules, flight test matrices, and risk assessments; perform statistical/program performance analysis to inform flight test execution.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or aviation-related engineering (required)
- Master's degree in Aerospace or Systems Engineering (preferred)
