Program Manager - Digital Workplace - job 1 of 4

At American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues. As part of Team Amex, you'll experience this powerful backing with comprehensive support for your holistic well-being and many opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career.

Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

The Program Manager – Real Estate & Digital Workplace Integration plays a critical leadership role in shaping, delivering, and scaling the digital workplace experience across American Express’ global footprint. This leader will be accountable for the end-to-end alignment between Digital Workplace (DW) and Global Real Estate & Workplace Experience (GREWE), ensuring technology is seamlessly embedded into the design, construction, and operation of our workplace environments.

Partnering across Technology, Real Estate, and Finance, the Program Manager will lead the annual asset procurement and transfer process, oversee technology integration in capital projects, and drive lifecycle accountability for all workplace technology assets in new builds, site renovations, and major workplace transformations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the single point of accountability between Digital Workplace and GREWE for all workplace technology integration activities.
  • Partner with GREWE during the annual capital planning cycle to identify and scope all relevant workplace technology projects.
  • Co-lead strategic planning and prioritization for site-level digital workplace investments aligned to enterprise goals.
  • Define and maintain technology standards and cost estimates in coordination with AET, to be applied across all new builds and renovation projects.
  • Oversee the CIP AR (Capital Investment Plan Authorization Request) process with GREWE to ensure timely and accurate procurement of workplace technology assets.
  • Support project execution through collaboration with GREWE Project Managers, ensuring budget accuracy, invoice validation, and project tracking.
  • Drive alignment between GREWE and Digital Workplace on technology assets in scope for each project, ensuring accurate and timely fixed asset capitalization.
  • Partner with GREWE and Corporate Planning during Q4 budget transfer cycles to transition ownership and budget responsibility of assets from GREWE to AET.
  • Maintain full lifecycle visibility and accountability for all transferred workplace assets, including future upgrades, maintenance, and end-of-life management.
  • Establish and enforce governance standards, including cost tracking, financial reconciliation, and budget forecasting related to workplace technology investments.
  • Provide executive reporting on technology integration performance, budget efficiency, and asset lifecycle KPIs.
  • Continuously improve the asset procurement, transfer, and capitalization processes to reduce risk, optimize spend, and enhance stakeholder experience.

Key Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology program management, workplace transformation, real estate/technology integration, or digital workplace strategy.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale capital projects and fixed asset procurement/lifecycle processes.
  • Strong understanding of workplace technologies (e.g., AV, collaboration tools, networking infrastructure).
  • Excellent financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning experience.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills—ability to navigate complex cross-functional relationships and influence at the executive level.
  • Deep understanding of service delivery principles and enterprise-first mindset.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; able to lead through ambiguity and build scalable, repeatable processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with corporate real estate, facility build-outs, or infrastructure implementation.
  • Familiarity with asset capitalization, corporate budget transfers, and lifecycle asset management.
  • Experience working in large, matrixed organizations with global reach.
