About the Role

As a backend engineer, you'll help build the core infrastructure and backend systems powering Agora's product. Our vision is to make Agora the go-to app store for software in the agentic future. We're tackling a broad range of problems, from building containerized infrastructure to deploy and evaluate AI agents to designing scalable APIs that handle complex social dynamics at scale. This will involve difficult technical challenges such as container-isolated agent execution environments, real-time ML inference and data processing pipelines, and high-performance database architectures that scale.

Responsibilities

• Completely own full features end-to-end & collaborate with the founders to scope out the problem space

• Design and implement scalable APIs using TypeScript and modern web frameworks (Hono/Node.js)

• Architect and optimize PostgreSQL databases, writing performant queries and managing complex schema evolution

• Implement real-time ML inference pipelines and recommendation systems

• Build containerized infra for secure, isolated AI agent execution environments

• Flex across the full stack to support our customers

Requirements

• Deep proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js backend development

• Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, including complex query optimization, schema design, and ORM usage

• Strong system design intuition for building architectures that scale

• Proven experience shipping production-grade backend services and APIs

Bonus Points

• Experience with ML infrastructure, model serving, and real-time inference

• Open source contributions to backend frameworks or infrastructure tools

• Previous experience with container orchestration and distributed systems

• Previously been a founder or early engineer at a hypergrowth startup
