Operations Risk Lead

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. We are seeking a strategic, action-oriented Operations Risk Lead to own incident and issue management, build scalable risk frameworks, and partner across Operations, Product, Engineering, Legal, and Compliance to protect customers, agents, and the business.

Skills

  • Operational and technical risk management experience in financial services or regulated industries.
  • Deep knowledge of issue management lifecycles, control frameworks, and control testing methodologies.
  • Proven cross-functional project leadership with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement, and executive reporting.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in root cause analysis, data-driven decision making, and tooling for risk visibility.
  • Familiarity with regulatory incident reporting and compliance readiness.
  • Willingness to support incident response and participate in on-call rotations during peak periods.

Responsibilities

  • Lead incident and issue management end-to-end: triage, root cause analysis, customer harm mitigation, and remediation tracking.
  • Represent Operations in incidents of varying severity, coordinating immediate response and recommending long-term control designs.
  • Design, build, and maintain a scalable risk framework that prioritizes high-risk areas and drives control improvements.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance to support regulatory reporting and meet applicable incident requirements.
  • Establish and run control testing, risk assessments, and metrics to evaluate effectiveness of operational and technical controls.
  • Develop tools and processes to improve risk visibility, data normalization, and automation.
  • Provide concise risk reporting and status updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Assess risk in technical systems, third-party vendors, and internal processes and define mitigation strategies.
  • Foster a risk-aware culture and serve as an operational and technical risk subject matter expert.
  • Coach and support team development, and lead risk initiatives across programs, audits, and regulatory reviews.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or related field required.
  • Certifications in risk or auditing (CRMA, CIA) preferred but not required.
