Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented Technical Product Designer - Soft Goods to support product concept development, materials research, and R&D product and graphic design. This role blends hands-on design execution with deep knowledge of materials, testing, and manufacturing considerations. The ideal candidate will be skilled in Adobe and other design tools, comfortable working from concept sketches to production-ready specifications, and capable of ensuring our products meet both functional and aesthetic brand standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design & Concept Development
Create and refine product concepts in line with brand strategy and design language.
Produce technical drawings, renderings, and illustrations using Adobe and other design tools.
Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and suppliers to develop prototypes and evaluate feasibility.
Materials Research & Testing
Research and recommend suitable materials based on durability, performance, and cost criteria.
Conduct and coordinate material testing for quality, compliance, and performance.
Maintain a library of approved materials, finishes, and suppliers.
Brand & Design Language Compliance
Ensure all designs adhere to the company’s established visual identity and brand design standards.
Review prototypes and production samples for compliance with branding and design intent.
Partner with marketing and creative teams to align product aesthetics with overall brand storytelling.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with engineering to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of designs.
Partner with operations to ensure materials are available, compliant, and sustainable where possible.
Participate in supplier reviews and production readiness checks.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Materials Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3–5 years of experience in industrial design, product development, or materials engineering.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD tools (SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar).
Strong knowledge of material properties, manufacturing processes, and testing protocols.
Experience working with brand compliance standards and design systems.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
Experience in consumer products, lifestyle goods, or soft goods design.
Knowledge of material sourcing and safety compliance standards.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative design environment.
Strong visual design sensibility with a practical, production-minded approach.
