We’re hiring Market Discovery Leads to drive business development and commercialization across our Pulse track, focused on biotech, life sciences, synthetic biology, healthcare.

 

The Role

As a Market Discovery Lead, you're the bridge between real-world needs and cutting-edge research. You uncover problems worth solving, validate market pull, and chart the best path to impact—whether through licensing, partnerships, or venture creation.

You’ll collaborate closely with Innovation Catalysts to shape early ideas, and with Venture Creators to bring validated opportunities to life. You’ll also be the first handshake with industry—sourcing insights, stress-testing fit and feasibility, and building strategic relationships.

You thrive at the intersection of science and market. You listen deeply, synthesize quickly, and help keep the team focused on solving meaningful, high-value problems.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Track the landscape – Maintain a portfolio-level view of market trends, industry needs, and commercialization potential.
  • Develop deep networks – Be the first point of contact with potential partners; build high-value industry relationships.
  • Discover pain points – Lead discovery sprints and user research to surface urgent, underserved market needs.
  • Deliver insights – Package actionable briefs with user needs, market context, and go-to-market hypotheses.
  • De-risk adoption – Prototype deals, test demand, and explore fit to accelerate real-world traction.
  • Guide strategy – Recommend commercialization pathways: spinout, license, partnership, or further incubation.
  • Fuel new ventures – Support Venture Creators in translating validated insights into investable startup theses.
  • Validate problem/solution fit – With Innovation Catalysts, match scientific capabilities to real-world problems.
  • Engage partners – Originate strategic collaborations (including licensing), working with Innovation Catalysts and Strategic Transactions to structure win-win partnerships.
  • Shape research direction – Provide market feedback upstream to guide the refinement of early-stage ideas.
  • Sector experience in biotech, life sciences, synthetic biology, healthcare, or related markets—with a clear understanding of how IP translates to traction.
  • Sharp instincts for market pain and the pattern recognition to spot promising solutions.
  • Experience in B2B discovery, product strategy, corporate innovation, or business development.
  • Exceptional synthesis and storytelling skills—you make complex ideas clear and compelling.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias for action and iteration.
  • Strong collaboration skills—you work fluidly across science, strategy, and execution teams.
  • Systems thinking—you see patterns and pathways that scale.
  • Domain fluency in biotech, life sciences, biomedical, and related fields and technologies.

 

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with translational research, tech transfer, or structuring commercialization deals.
  • Background in STEM, business, or policy.
  • Experience working in venture development, accelerators, or university innovation offices.
  • Working knowledge of licensing, IP strategy, and early-stage partnerships.
