Job Summary:

The highly ranked Department of Chemistry of the University of Wisconsin-Madison is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty position, beginning August 2026. We seek outstanding candidates from all areas of the chemical sciences whose research interests broadly intersect with biologically relevant themes such as human healthspan, immunology, and disease. This position is part of the RISE-THRIVE initiative, whose mission is described at https://rise.wisc.edu/rise-thrive/.

The successful candidate will advance the educational mission of the College of Letters & Science that values, prioritizes, and actualizes evidence-based and student-centered teaching and (undergraduate student) mentoring. They will contribute to an environment that fosters engagement and a sense of belonging for faculty, staff, students and members of the broader community


A successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous research program in their area of specialization, teach chemistry courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools and colleges and perform professional and university service as appropriate.


The successful candidate, as a member of the College of L&S, will proactively contribute to, support, and advance the college’s commitment to excellence among all aspects of their teaching, mentoring, research, and service.

This position is part of the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE) Initiative. Through accelerated and strategic faculty hiring, research infrastructure enhancement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and increased student and educational opportunities, RISE addresses complex societal challenges of importance to the state, nation and world. Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have the potential to develop a vigorous research program in their field of specialization. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience with fostering or the ability to foster teaching, learning, mentoring, departmental, and a research environment where all can thrive.

Education:

A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field is required by the start of appointment.

3.Teaching and mentoring statement

4. One single file containing these two documents: Research Experience Summary and Description of Research Plans

5. Brief (200 word maximum) statement connecting the proposed research with RISE-THRIVE themes as they intersect with the chemical sciences.

When prompted, please indicate your primary research area (such as chemical biology or analytical chemistry or other field in the chemical sciences).

Please note that applicants will be evaluated based upon submitted application materials and therefore should speak to and include evidence of their qualifications. Application materials must clearly demonstrate the applicant’s dedication to excellence in student-centered teaching and mentoring.

Additionally, materials should showcase the applicant’s ability to purposefully plan their teaching practices, evidenced through goals, action plans, reflection, and related documentation. This portion of the application materials must be created by the applicant and may include supporting letters.  It cannot be only in the form of letters and testimony by others.
