Avionics Hardware Development Engineer

Varda is building commercial space infrastructure to enable manufacturing in low Earth orbit and bring unique products back to Earth. We are looking for an Avionics Hardware Development Engineer to design, build, and qualify mixed-signal flight electronics, own hardware through the full lifecycle, and validate systems through rigorous environmental testing.

Skills

  • Experience with mixed-signal circuit design, analysis, and test
  • Proven PCB schematic and layout development experience
  • Hands-on use of oscilloscopes, function generators, bench DMMs, and power supplies
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power distribution, grounding, and board layout best practices
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting/data analysis languages
  • Familiarity with sensors and actuators: RTDs, pressure transducers, DC brushless motors, solenoid valves, thermocouples, LVDT/RVDT, encoders
  • Experience planning and executing environmental qualification testing (vibe, shock, thermal, TVAC, EMI/EMC)

Responsibilities

  • Develop mixed-signal electronics and shepherd designs through requirements, development, qualification, and production release
  • Perform avionics architecture trade studies, device selection, and performance characterization
  • Design electrical circuit boards and collaborate on mechanical fit, form, and function
  • Develop test plans and functionally test hardware through thermal, vibe, shock, TVAC, and EMI
  • Support risk analyses, design for test/manufacture/cost, and perform root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Write vehicle-level integration test plans and validate hardware for flight
  • Drive mitigation strategies for test failures and flight risks
  • Work on products such as flight computers, networking, star trackers, reaction wheels, magnetorquers, payload controllers, battery packs, solar chargers, and RF transceivers

Education

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years of direct electronics hardware development experience
