General Notes

The Center for Biomedical Research Support (CBRS) is a collection of 10 service centers that operates under the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) and broadly supports the research community on campus and externally. CBRS serves a central role across all of campus to provide access to cutting-edge technology, expert advice, and centralized services. CBRS is comprised of core facilities including Biomedical Imaging, Bioinformatics, Biological Mass Spectrometry, Biomedical Research Computing, Cryo-EM imaging, Genome Sequencing, Microscopy/Flow Cytometry and Mouse Genetic Engineering. In addition, CBRS provides laboratory support in the forms of stockrooms, electronics repair, and external services drop boxes. 

Purpose

The CBRS Microscopy and Flow Cytometry Facility is a core facility that provides state-of-the-art instrumentation, training, and experiment support to the entire UT Austin research community.  We are hiring a Work-Study Undergraduate Research Associate to be responsible for administrative and lab management tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciling instrument calendar charges in facility booking system.

  • Stocking and supplying routine lab consumables.

  • Preparing sheath fluid and other consumables for flow cytometry instruments.

  • Maintaining clean laboratory areas.

  • Assisting with designing and distributing marketing materials for core facility events.

  • Updating chemical inventory.

  • Submitting laboratory waste for disposal using appropriate EHS procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate at UT Austin enrolled/registered for the current semester and in good academic standing.

  • Financial aid work-study recipient

  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines for successful completion of work.

  • Ability to independently complete assigned tasks after training.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a laboratory

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience with Canva or other graphic design software

Salary Range

$15.00 Hourly

Work Shift

  • Minimum of 8 hours/week, maximum of 19 hours/week.

  • All work hours must be completed during our facility’s open hours of 8 am-5 pm on weekdays.
