Purpose

As a member of the Data Engineering and Infrastructure (DEI) team, the Sr. Data Engineer will develop and maintain our ETL pipelines, share ownership of end-to-end data quality, and will work closely with the Applications Development, Records Management, and Reporting and Analytics teams to ensure that data assets relating to both applications and business intelligence systems (warehouse, reporting system, etc.) are accurate, consistent, and reliable. The Sr. Data Engineer will be a key contributor to the University Development Office’s upcoming new CRM (Customer Resource Management) implementation and new Azure cloud-based data warehouse.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and append data from 3rd party vendors into application layer databases.

  • Code utility programs that support data appends and bulk files.

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure and performant integration/ETL pipelines from source system to DW/BI environment.

  • Ensure high quality of data delivered to internal stakeholders and users within the University Development Office.

  • Identify, rectify, and continually improve quality of data in current and future CRM.

  • Identify, architect, and implement process improvements to data systems.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot data loads.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 2+ years of experience with database management

  • 2+ years of experience with SQL development

  • 2+ years of experience with building integrations/ETL pipelines

  • 2+ years of experience coding against APIs

  • Experience using version control software such as GitHub

  • Experience writing complex SQL queries and working with large amounts of data

  • Experience with data appends and data cleansing techniques

  • Experience working in cloud-based environments

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than three years of experience in the areas listed in the Required Qualifications section

  • Experience working with Azure and related tools such as Data Factory

  • Experience using DBT

  • Understanding of CI/CD and Data Ops principles

  • Experience with Salesforce and related tools such as SOQL and SF Data Loader

  • Experience using project management software such as JIRA

Salary Range

$100,000.00+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Works in standard office conditions, in a shared office environment, with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required during peak periods and special events.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States. This position is not eligible for sponsorship of work visas.

  • This is an Austin, TX-based position and is eligible for hybrid work in Austin, Texas.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
