General Notes
We are seeking a highly motivated and culturally competent undergraduate Research Assistant to support a community-based study focused on Japanese and Japanese-American populations. This role involves direct outreach, bilingual communication, and administrative support, offering hands-on experience in participant recruitment and community-engaged research. Orientation and training on research ethics, recruitment protocols, and cultural sensitivity will be provided, as well as ongoing mentorship and supervision by the research team. Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Engagement
Identify Japanese organizations and businesses online that may support study outreach.
Participate in in-person outreach activities as needed.
Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with community leaders and organizational contacts.
Recruitment Communication & Dissemination
Share study announcements via Japanese-American online platforms (e.g., Line, Instagram, forums, etc.).
Distribute printed and digital materials to online/offline communities (e.g., churches, senior centers, cultural events).
Make outreach phone calls and speak with representatives to build and maintain recruitment partnerships.
Translate study materials (e.g., announcements, consent forms) into Japanese when needed.
Monitor and report responses and inquiries to the research team.
Support, Strategy & Development
Contribute to the development and improvement of recruitment strategies through team meetings.
Maintain detailed recruitment logs and prepare status reports for team meetings.
Participate in weekly team meetings and apply research ethics and best practices.
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled undergraduate student.
Fluent in Japanese and English (spoken and written).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Interest in community-based research and Japanese-American communities.
Responsible, organized, and able to work independently in a team environment.
Prior experience in outreach or translation is a plus.
