The Director of Advancement - Asia is responsible for leading and executing advancement strategies to engage high-potential constituencies and drive philanthropic support for The University of Texas at Austin in Asia, with primary focus on Korea, Japan, and Singapore. This role develops and implements plans for curated engagement of prospects, identifies, cultivates, and stewards high-profile, high-capacity individual prospects, with an emphasis on major and principal gift fundraising. The position reports to a Senior Director of Advancement and collaborates closely with academic units and university-wide partners.
Travel to the assigned region 3-4 times per fiscal year.
Identify and implement opportunities for alumni to remain connected and contribute through advocacy, investment, and impact.
Represent the university at regional events to elevate institutional visibility and philanthropic potential.
Strengthen the volunteer leadership pipeline by identifying and supporting regional candidates for advisory councils and boards.
Lead at least one high-level engagement event annually and support broader university programming in the region.
Gather and share regional intelligence, philanthropic trends, and strategic insights to inform advancement planning.
Manage an active portfolio of 40-80 prospective donors.
Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts ranging from $100,000 to $1,000,000+.
Achieve annual fundraising goals of $2,000,000-$5,000,000 within 24 months of hire.
Develop and deliver compelling proposals and stewardship plans tailored to donor interests.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in VIP, including contact reports, strategies, proposals, and forecasting.
Draft follow-up communications such as reports, letters, and gift agreements.
Collaborate with Corporate and Industry Relations teams to identify, redirect, and leverage strategic partnerships with international corporations that may result from regional work with individual prospects.
Support opportunities for corporate sponsorships, research funding, faculty collaboration, student experiential learning, and philanthropic investment.
Coordinate with Texas Global to redirect alumni and prospects interested in academic partnerships with foreign institutions.
Partner with TexasExes, the alumni association to align alumni engagement strategies and amplify impact through their initiatives.
Work collaboratively with faculty, academic leaders, and development colleagues to identify and pursue cross-campus funding opportunities.
Ensure regional advancement efforts align with the university's international advancement strategy.
Serve as regional advisor on philanthropic opportunities, risks, and cultural considerations.

Bachelor's degree.
Demonstrated success in full-cycle donor engagement and major gift fundraising.
High emotional intelligence, adaptability, and results orientation.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Proficiency in Korean, Japanese, or another regional language, or experience working with stakeholders in Korea, Japan, or Singapore.
Familiarity with philanthropic customs, donor expectations, and cultural protocols in East and Southeast Asia.
Experience developing and executing international advancement strategies, including prospect research and pipeline development.
Proven ability to collaborate across functions such as alumni relations, communications, and institutional donor relations.
$120,000.00+ depending on qualifications
Works in standard office conditions, in a shared office environment, with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
Some evening and weekend hours may be required during peak periods and special events.

This position has a preference for candidates based in or near Austin, Texas. However, we welcome remote applicants based who have convenient access to major airports, enabling regular travel to key regions relevant to the role.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
