The University of Louisville is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Facilities Coordinator IV to help lead the new Speed Center for Innovation, an interdisciplinary academic makerspace located within the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. This hands-on role supports the daily operations of the Center while helping foster a creative environment where students from all majors can collaborate, design, prototype, and explore.
The position will play a central role in recruiting and training a team of student workers, maintaining tools and fabrication equipment, instructing users on proper usage and safety, and assisting with outreach activities such as workshops, special events, and summer camps. Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Supervision (50%)
Assist in the day-to-day management and operation of the Speed Center for Innovation.
Recruit, hire, and train a student workforce to support makerspace users and maintain a positive environment.
Supervise student employees, encouraging leadership development and peer-to-peer mentoring.
Promote a safe, collaborative, and welcoming environment for users of all skill levels.
Instruction & Equipment Oversight (30%)
Train users on a wide variety of tools and technologies, including woodworking, welding, 3D printing, CNC, and electronics.
Monitor equipment condition and perform or coordinate preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
Ensure adherence to safety standards, protocols, and best practices.
Help develop instructional content, training resources, and user documentation.
Outreach & Collaboration (20%)
Support programming such as workshops, open houses, student organization activities, and K–12 outreach.
Assist with planning and delivering summer camps and other STEM engagement initiatives.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate makerspace resources into academic courses and interdisciplinary student projects.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical, design, or education-related field.
Professional experience in a college or university campus setting.
Advanced skills in CNC, CAD/CAM, 3D printing, or related digital fabrication technologies.
Experience developing safety and training materials.
Demonstrated support for success of all students.
Experience working in a makerspace, fabrication lab, or related environment.
Proficiency with machine tools, woodworking, and welding.
Experience with electronics, soldering, and basic circuit work.
Background in higher education or student-centered environments.
Strong communication skills with a passion for community-building.
Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends.
Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Target Compensation Maximum:
$70,623.00Target Compensation Minimum:
$47,048.00Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
