System Performance Modeling Developer

Logos Space is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite system purpose-built to serve the connectivity needs of the commercial enterprise users and government users. We will help fill an important gap in the market, providing resilient, high-performance satellite-based connectivity services to enterprise and government customers worldwide. Business customers have contracts with agreed-upon performance standards for their broadband, and Logos will build these capabilities into the system from the beginning. Speed and reliability are the foundation of the system. Logos is designed to extend cloud and data center network connectivity anywhere in the world to fixed, seaborne, and airborne terminals.

Logos is led by a team of highly experienced engineers with proven track records in the networking and satellite industries.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

The Networking team at Logos Space is responsible for ensuring the success of our network through development of a software defined networking, performance monitoring and other components of the ground segment. It is also responsible for collaboration with other aspects of the spacecraft design, such as the RF, power management and other aspects. This network will simultaneously offer services at Layer 2, 2.5 and 3 to enterprise customers, which is a unique service for which Logos will have to develop the methodology to manage flows at an enterprise level of assurance. This position will evolve the tools to understand the impact of this development, starting with conceptual framework, and eventually evolving to discrete event simulation at the message level, and ultimately to a “digital twin” of the deployed system.

The Algorithm and Network Simulation Engineer to play a crucial role in the design, optimization, and validation of our cutting-edge hybrid space and terrestrial network to be responsible for developing sophisticated simulation models and algorithms to analyze network performance, evaluate new technologies, and optimize network behavior across this complex and dynamic environment. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the core innovation of our network architecture.

You should be prepared to work and thrive in a fast moving environment where you are comfortable taking vague design ideas and turning them into tangible hardware ready for test and flight. We are seeking engineers who love to solve hard problems!

The full responsibilities include:

  • Performance Prediction and Strategy Development: Together with the Networking and Ground segment leads, develop a life cycle plan for assessing the performance of the Logos system, keyed to each stage of development and deployment maturity, and evolve this plan to support the engineering and business decisions required.

  • Provide Early Evaluation of Network Algorithms: Initially, develop representations of proposed network formation and routing algorithms to support the Networking team in developing and finalizing these decisions, and assessing the impact on other system elements and performance.

  • Mature this Capability: Continue to reflect the network design as it matures into identifying specific data exchanges, message definitions and APIs, continually supporting the network design process.

  • Introduce Hardware performance models and limitations: Mature the network model to more fully reflect the design decisions made for payload, bus and ground segment to fully reflect the system performance.

  • Model System Resource Management: Analyze load balancing and other resource allocation processes throughout the system; algorithms for network optimization, resource allocation, routing, congestion control, quality of service (QoS), and security within the hybrid network environment.

  • Participate in Hardware in the Loop Testing: As elements of the Logos system are fully realized in hardware, expand the tool to participate in HWIL testing and performance analysis to validate the designs, software implementation, and performance predictions.

  • Manage Across Tools: It is likely that the Logos needs will not be met by a single tool, but composites of internal and external tools from vendors and partners. Integrate the best strategy to leverage these resources to support rapid engineering maturation. Work with Vendors and Logos management to make these “Make or Buy” decisions.

  • Scenario Definition and Execution: Define and execute a wide range of evaluation scenarios to evaluate network performance under various conditions, including nominal operations, failure scenarios, and varying traffic loads.

  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze evaluation results, identify performance bottlenecks, and provide insightful recommendations for network design improvements and algorithm optimization.

  • Support Technology Evaluation through Simulation: Utilize simulation models to evaluate the feasibility and performance of alternative hardware of software approaches in the Logos system.

  • Manage the Evaluation Team: As Logos scales up the level of detail and complexity of representations, lead a larger team to address these challenges by hiring, mentoring and leading this effort.

  • Collaboration with Engineering Teams: Work closely with network architects, system engineers, and software developers to translate simulation findings into actionable design decisions and implementation strategies.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare clear and concise technical reports, presentations, and documentation summarizing simulation methodologies, results, and recommendations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with a strong emphasis on networking and simulation (Master's or Ph.D. preferred).

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network simulation and modeling.

  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and architectures across Layers 2, 2.5 and 3.

  • Some experience with space-based systems, orbital dynamics, and other aspects of networking unique to space-based platforms

  • Proficiency in one or more network simulation tools (e.g., NS-3, OMNeT++, OPNET, NetSim, …).

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or Java for model development and data analysis.

  • Solid understanding of algorithm design and analysis principles.

  • Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization techniques.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience simulating satellite networks, including orbital mechanics, link budgets, and space-specific protocols.

  • Experience in modeling wireless networks, and RF unique phenomenology.

  • Knowledge of optimization techniques (e.g., linear programming, genetic algorithms) applied to network resource allocation and routing.

  • Experience with cloud-based simulation environments.

  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques for network performance prediction and optimization.
