Summary:
Manages risk, coordinates risk reduction activities in the physical environment, collects deficiency information and disseminates summaries of actions and results including injuries, problems or user errors. Oversees compliance and inspections, corrective actions, and documents review files related to the various accrediting and governmental regulations.Responsibilities:
Responsible for the Environment of Care program designed to ensure the safety of all building occupants. Designated by the CEO or designee as the Safety Officer. Includes chairing the regularly scheduled Environment of Care meetings, annual revision of EOC management plans, organization-wide collection of information about deficiencies and opportunities for improvement, and monitoring Safety, Fire Safety, Security, Utility, Medical Equipment, Hazardous Material and Waste Management and Occupational Work Hazards. Reports regularly to senior leadership.Works with other managers to initiate appropriate actions and recommendations, based on analysis of incident reports and other information. Ensures issues, chosen by the EC Committee, are monitored and the results reported to that committee.Coordinates or participates in environmental tours, mock surveys, and tracer reviews, Life Safety and Safety Assessments as part of the compliance process. Assists with progress and compliance of results.Responsible for intervention whenever environmental conditions pose an immediate threat to life. Ensures ultimate authority for actions required under these circumstances.Conducts routine inspections of facility kitchens utilizing the Joint Commission Resource program. Conducts inspections of leased kitchen space within the facility and on the campus. Reports findings and action items/completion. Reports regularly to senior leadership.Continuously strives to improve Safety, Fire Safety and Environment of Care programs through ongoing education and new employee orientation.Assists with the compliance and readiness of all Environment of Care, Life Safety, and Emergency Management directives set forth by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), TJC, AHCA, CMS Hollywood Fire department and all other regulatory agencies. Ensures regulatory updates from these agencies are disseminated to leaders and team appropriately.Works with responsible individuals in conducting necessary drills that will improve the safety and security of the hospital such as infant abduction drills, and emergency management drills that are based on a completed HVA, etc.Participates and assists in the evaluation of surgical procedures, fire drills (to include Surgeon and Anesthesia) at least annually. Assists with education as needed.Revises and maintains EC/LS compliance tracking tool. Six months prior to survey, verifies documentation compliance either electronically or in binders, necessary for the successful completion of LS and EC surveys by the Joint Commission, CMS, AHCA, City of Hollywood and Broward County, or any accrediting agency. Meets with Facilities/Plant Operations Directors regularly to discuss deficiencies.Leads the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) Employee Staff Safety (ESS) monthly meetings, prepares agenda, minutes and presentations. Reports SPS/ESS at the bi-monthly SPS Steering Committee Meeting. Attends the SPS Learning Series Sessions. Leads quarterly Hazardous Materials and Waste subcommittee meetings, prepares agenda, minutes and presentations. Participates in hospital committees, as assigned. Presents quarterly at the Quality Care & Patient Safety Council MeetingConducts quarterly inspections of the campus grounds. Assists with progress and compliance of survey results. Reports regularly to senior leadership.Regularly audits ICRA and ILSM documents for compliance and tours projects.Competencies:
