Block Party is the first truly AI-native virtual world. We have built a mobile game where players collect building blocks on the real-world map and use them to generate endless creations. Creativity drives progress: the more players collect, the more impressive their creations become. Our passionate user base consists of AI enthusiasts, ardent collectors, and creative world builders. We believe that Block Party can become a self-expanding world powered by AI and directed by our players.
About the Role
As our first design hire, you'll own the full design spectrum, from concept ideation and user research to UX/UI and interactive prototyping. Your designs will shape a playful, engaging, and bold mobile gaming experience. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll collaborate closely to push creative boundaries and leverage the full potential of a game loop powered by AI.
What You'll Do
Drive UX/UI design from concept through execution.
Conduct user research and testing to refine gameplay experiences.
Create interactive prototypes and iterate rapidly based on feedback.
Collaborate closely with engineering to ensure high-quality implementation.
Produce high-quality designs, interactions, and prototypes
Help produce ad creatives, app store screenshots, and other marketing materials
Who We're Looking For
Product design experience, ideally with a mix of experience at early-stage startups and successful game studios
Extensive experience designing engaging, consumer-focused mobile apps
Strong experience or passion for mobile gaming, consumer-social products, or map-based technologies
Ability to think through complex interaction design
Proficiency in Figma
Someone who is enthusiastic about games—particularly mobile, party, or Nintendo games
You enjoy being scrappy and moving quickly — you are entrepreneurial
You thrive when working as the only designer in a small team (we're a team of 4 at the moment!), but also enjoy collaborating with engineering and product
You have strong opinions, loosely held. You are confident in your decisions, and are open to new information
You are adaptable while detail-oriented — you are comfortable sacrificing polish to ship quickly and learn
Excited to push the boundaries of generative AI and use AI creatively and effectively throughout your workflow
Location
Our office is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We prefer in-person time, and expect employees in-office at least 2x per week.
