Job Description

The College and Career Readiness (CCR) Teacher and Leader manages the CCR program. The CCR Teacher and Coordinator assists in establishing a clear, shared vision for the role of their team in the intellectual development of each student, and develops the content expertise and planning habits of each team member.  The CCR Teacher and Coordinator reports to the Uncommon Charter High School Director of Special Education. 

The CCR Teacher and Coordinator will lead and teach the College and Career Readiness courses to all 11th and 12th grade students. The College and Career Readiness courses provide students the opportunity to explore and prepare for the college and career application process while exposing them to college and career readiness skills. By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Identify personal qualities, reflect on their personal identity and identify external support they can incorporate on their journey to college and career success
  • Objectively view the world around them and at the same time take a position on the world around them through the lens of their identities and the drive to build a more just world 
  • Successfully communicate both their professional and personal assets in writing and in person that is aligned with their identity and version of their future self
  • Recognize the attributes of college campuses that align with their identity 
  • Identify the costs and the funding sources necessary to support their postsecondary education
  • Identify academic metrics and skills necessary to achieve the postsecondary option of their choice 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Establish a Clear College & Career Readiness Program

  • Leading CCR Professional Development workshops quarterly
  • Participating in meetings with the Office of College Access and Success Team at Uncommon Charter High School 
  • Analyzing SAT Mock and Official data sets to track progress towards departmental goals
  • Differentiating CCR curriculum to meet the needs of each cohort
  • Supports Director of Special Education and the Director of the Office of College Access and Success with fundraising, donor, and visitor requests and collaboration initiatives

Progressive Pathways Management

  • Collaborate with Office of College Access and Success Counselors and High School 2.0 Coordinator on Progressive Pathway plans 
  • Works with students on the creation and completion of Progressive Pathways plans including input from families and teachers  
  • Maintain and develop partnerships with College and Career readiness external partners to support students in in pursuing meaningful career-related extracurricular experiences
  • Collaborate and partner with Career and Technical Education Programs 

Teaching College & Career Readiness Course

  • Planning and teaching lessons focused on college and career readiness skills
  • Implementing lessons from the Uncommon Schools Office of College Access and Success curriculum, which exposes students to postsecondary options and helps them create a strong transition plan to their Senior College Counselor or Workforce Advisor 
  • Differentiating and aligning daily instruction based on data
  • Infusing joy and a passion for excellence into the junior College and Career Readiness course
  • Motivating and investing students in the College and Career Readiness Course and  post-secondary skills necessary for success 
  • Maintaining grades and attendance in PowerSchool for students

Supporting College & Career Readiness 11th-12th Grade College Readiness Initiatives

  • Diligently supporting students in creating appropriately rigorous and realistic plans based on data for their college and career plan.
  • Coordinating with Advisory chairs to develop sessions on college ready traits
  • Attend 11th and 12th Grade Team Meetings to share college and career updates and student progress
  • Coordinate planning, promoting, and executing 11th and 12th grade College Trips and college knowledge events, including setting attendance goals for the college fair and info sessions with the Office of College Access and Success

Qualifications

  • Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom.
  • Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom.
  • Mastery of and enthusiasm for academic subjects.
  • Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years teaching or counseling experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.
  • General education teaching certification is required, Special Education teaching certification is preferred. 
  • Belief in and alignment with Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
  • By the time that employment begins, candidates must have received a Bachelor's degree from a College or University.

Compensation

Compensation for this role is between $72,000 to $115,000. 

Starting pay is determined using various factors including but not limited to relevant full-time teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teaching experience will likely have a starting salary of $72,000. 

* The range above represents our compensation scales for the 2025-2026 school year. If starting prior to June 30th, 2025, compensation will be based on a slightly lower range, reflective of current compensation scales. New hires who fall into this category will see an increase in their compensation starting on July 1st, 2025  for next school year which aligns to the scale above.
