Summary of Job Duties:

- The Extension Nematology Educator (Instructor rank) will be responsible as lead diagnostician and management of the Arkansas Nematode Diagnostic Laboratory, with duties aimed at safeguarding agricultural, horticultural, and forestry sectors in Arkansas.

- Responsibilities include the detection, identification and quantification of plant-pathogenic and other nematodes as needed.
- Accurate and timely assays, recommendations for growers, and educational efforts to stakeholders for prevention and management of plant health concerns.
- Education and recommendations too stakeholders and state agencies for improvement of phytosanitary practices.
- Provide training, collaboration and support to county Extension agents and their county programming efforts. Outreach efforts through newsletters and presentations focus on education of homeowners, community groups and farmers.
- Daily supervision of staff, reporting, and management of funding.
- Communicate with SWREC director regarding infrastructure needs, coordinate lab safety training, oversee lab maintenance, lab supplies and general safety.
- Collaborate effectively with research and Extension faculty and be expected to seek extramural funding to support diagnostic, research and Extension needs of the lab.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- M.S. in plant pathology, nematology or related field is required, with expertise in nematode identification and management.

- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a diagnostics program, including direct interaction with clientele

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to obtain & interpret research information. Ability to anticipate changing trends in assigned discipline area & develop programs to address those changes. Knowledge of the principles & techniques of adult education. Knowledge of the program planning process. Ability to work effectively with a variety of professional & lay audiences. Ability to communicate & convey ideas effectively to faculty, stakeholder groups, & clientele. Physical & mental ability to effectively perform the duties & responsibilities of the job, including long & irregular hours of work & some in-state & out-of-state travel.
