Senior Network Engineer

Description

Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Network Engineer to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.

 

The Senior Network Engineer leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex network infrastructure, ensuring the network is secure, efficient, and highly available. This position involves guiding junior and journeyman network staff, ensuring secure and high-availability operations, and aligning network infrastructure with evolving mission requirements and cybersecurity policies.

 

Responsibilities:

• Provides Tier 3 troubleshooting and in-depth analysis of network outages, diagnosing complex issues related to routing, switching, and connectivity, and implementing long-term solutions
• Collaborates with other IT teams to integrate new technologies and ensure seamless operation of the network environment across multiple locations
• Oversees the configuration and management of advanced network equipment, including high-performance routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
• Develops and implements network performance optimization strategies, addressing capacity issues, traffic bottlenecks, and reliability concerns to maintain an effective network
• Leads network troubleshooting efforts during critical outages, coordinating with Tier 2 engineers to resolve issues and restore services with minimal downtime
• Mentors and trains junior and journeyman network engineers, sharing best practices and providing support during network issue resolutions
• Establishes and refines network policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistent and efficient network management across the organization
• Monitors emerging network technologies and trends, recommending upgrades and improvements to stay ahead of security threats and performance limitations
• Coordinates with security teams to implement robust network security measures, including segmentation, VPNs, intrusion detection, and firewall policies

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field
• 10+ years of experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise network environments
• In-depth understanding of Layer 2/3 networking, network security principles, and network automation tools
• Proven leadership experience in DoD or large-scale government network environments

Desired:

• Master’s degree in related field
• Familiarity with DoD secure enclave architecture and DISA STIGs
• Experience with network monitoring and automation tools (SolarWinds, Ansible, Cisco DNA Center, etc.)
• Strong documentation, communication, and mentoring skills
• Understanding of hybrid cloud network integration
• Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert
• ITIL v4 Foundation or better
• CISSP

Clearance:

• TS/SCI clearance required

Certification:

• DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
• CompTIA Security+ CE
• Cisco Certified Network Professional
