WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Toyota’s Manufacturing Architecture Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Principal Technical Architect.
In this pivotal role, you will lead the design and evolution of technical architecture strategies that modernize and transform Toyota’s manufacturing business.
Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Manufacturing Architecture, you will play a key role in building secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure and systems that empower multiple business units and drive digital transformation.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Every day, you’ll be shaping the future of Toyota’s manufacturing technology landscape by owning end-to-end architecture design and reducing technical debt. Success means delivering innovative, efficient, and sustainable technology solutions that support business growth and operational excellence. You will:
Lead technical architecture and design efforts across manufacturing digital transformation programs, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and cost-effective.
Serve as a trusted architectural advisor, balancing enterprise needs with portfolio priorities to guide technology decisions across systems, infrastructure, security, data, integrations, and DevOps.
Provide expert consulting on diverse technologies, enabling teams to leverage the best tools and practices for impactful business solutions.
Drive technology and vendor selection processes, including managing RFPs and leading proof of concept evaluations.
Lead architectural governance activities, supporting enterprise standards and review boards to maintain architectural health.
Collaborate cross-functionally to define business, technical, and product roadmaps that align with strategic goals.
Champion modern software development practices to prevent technical debt and foster continuous improvement.
WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technology-related field, or equivalent experience of 10+ years in software development and technical architecture.
Proven track record of increasing technical ownership and leadership in architecture, software design, and development across diverse environments.
Strong communication skills to influence and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to make complex decisions by evaluating multiple technology options, balancing non-functional requirements, and managing trade-offs with total cost of ownership in mind.
Hands-on expertise with cloud-native applications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), hybrid architectures, relational and NoSQL databases, integration technologies, DevOps (CI/CD, IaC), and modern programming languages for both front-end and back-end development.
Self-motivated commitment to continuous professional growth in technology, business understanding, and interpersonal skills.
ADDED BONUS IF YOU HAVE
Experience in the manufacturing domain and leading business and technology transformation initiatives.
Training or certification in formal architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman, with practical application experience.
Recent technology certifications (within 2 years) in cloud platforms, programming languages, or modern software development tools.
Knowledge of data science technologies, including AI/ML and MLOps to design innovative business solutions.
Agile/Scrum experience relevant to technical leadership or team collaboration.
