Entry Level Staff Engineer - Waterfront & Coastal Design

As an Entry Level Staff Engineer, you will join our Waterfront and Coastal Team in our Portsmouth, NH office, where you’ll play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure projects across the Northeast. Our Waterfront and Coastal Team and ProjectsOur Waterfront and Coastal group specializes in providing planning and engineering services to address the challenges of coastal and waterfront storm damage on infrastructure. With climate change having a significant impact on numerous communities, we focus on preventative measures to ensure resilience. Our team of nearly 120 Land Use & Transportation professionals across our 17 regional offices is dedicated to supporting our coastal resiliency projects.  

Responsibilities, Requirements, and Total Rewards

What You’ll Be DoingAs a valuable part of our Waterfront and Coastal Team, an Entry Level Staff Engineer will support a variety of projects and gain hands-on experience with responsibilities such as:

• Play a key role in assisting with a variety of projects such as port, pier, dock, and industrial waterfront facility infrastructure improvements
• Assist with geotechnical investigations and a variety of other geo-structural projects.
• Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, reports, and correspondence
• Observe construction, help with shop drawings and submittals, and create as-builts and record plans 

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
• Passed your FE Exam and obtained your EIT certification, or planning to by June 2026
• Relevant experience through internships in surveying, engineering design, permitting, consulting, or construction observation
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Eagerness to learn, intellectually curious, self-motivated, and excellent organizational skills

Preferred Requirements

• Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
• Hands-on experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or SolidWorks
• Understanding of hydraulic/hydrological studies and modeling

• Compensation is based on skills and experience as reflected in the pay range below
• The annual salary for a Staff Engineer 1 in Waterfront/Coastal Engineering  is set at $74,464 for a candidate graduating with a Bachelor's degree
• The annual salary for a Staff Engineer 1 in Waterfront/Coastal Engineering is set at $78,624 for a candidate graduating with a Master's degree
