Sr. Construction Inspector

The City of Fort Worth Transportation & Public Works Department is hiring a Sr. Construction Inspector to supervise and perform inspections on public works projects including utilities, storm drainage, concrete, and asphalt paving. The role requires strong plan-reading, inspection, and communication skills to ensure projects conform to plans, specifications, contracts, and safety standards while maintaining positive relationships with contractors, utilities, the public, and city staff.

Skills

  • Construction inspection and plan reading
  • Knowledge of public works systems (utilities, storm drainage, paving)
  • Change order review and evaluation
  • Experience with concrete and asphalt construction methods
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Supervisory and team leadership skills
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive City vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead inspection staff; assign priorities, train, and enforce policies and safety procedures
  • Review plans, specifications and contracts for assigned projects
  • Perform site inspections for utilities, storm drainage, concrete and asphalt paving
  • Review and evaluate proposed change orders and participate in negotiations
  • Schedule and attend pre-construction meetings and final inspections
  • Act as liaison between contractors, utilities, the public and City departments
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, construction standards, ordinances and regulations
  • Prepare inspection documentation, reports and maintain accurate records
  • Drive City vehicle as required for field inspections

Education

  • High school diploma or GED
  • College-level coursework in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered
