- FAA Commercial Pilot License with Rotorcraft-Helicopter rating
- FAA 2nd Class Medical Certification
- Minimum 1500 total flight hours, including 1000 turbine hours
- Night flight experience and proficiency
- Pre-flight and post-flight inspection knowledge
- Airspace, navigation and radio communication proficiency
- Ability to complete mission reports and operational documentation
- Maintain CJIS eligibility and pass fingerprint-based background check
Responsibilities
- Serve as pilot-in-command of FWPD helicopters, retaining responsibility for aircraft and safe operation during duty.
- Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections and prepare flight inspection reports.
- Plan and research flight operations, including weather, airspace restrictions, and hazards.
- Maintain authority to initiate, conduct, or terminate flights on behalf of the City.
- Provide aerial support for traffic patrol, criminal pursuits, scene location and spotlighting, and other law enforcement activities.
- Operate and maneuver helicopters safely and efficiently for assigned police functions.
- Perform aerial searches and spotlighting as required.
- Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
- Provide aerial transportation support for other departments as required.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Specialized training in helicopter piloting or related field
- Relevant flight school or rotorcraft certifications preferred
