Skills
- Knowledge of model building codes and local ordinances
- Blueprint reading and plans examination
- Effective written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Computer skills for permitting software and data entry (experience with Accela preferred)
- Ability to interpret calculations and building systems across disciplines (structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical)
Responsibilities
- Review commercial and residential plans (multi-family, single-family, high-rise, mixed-use) for compliance with applicable building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes.
- Interpret regulations, laws and ordinances and provide guidance to architects, engineers, contractors and the public.
- Identify and document required revisions; amend plans as needed and communicate follow-up with applicants.
- Enter and update plans examination and application data in the permitting system; track application status and issue permits.
- Assist in resolving plan issues with innovative, code-compliant solutions and provide customer service during intake and review processes.
Education
- Associate's Degree required (related field)
- Candidates without the degree may be considered with equivalent or greater relevant work experience
