Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the public information office and supervise the PIO team
- Develop and implement strategic department messaging aligned with citywide communications
- Manage crisis communications and media relations during breaking news and critical incidents
- Prepare talking points, briefings and communications for the Chief of Police and department leaders
- Create, review, edit and produce content for website, social media, news releases and printed materials
- Monitor communications effectiveness and adjust strategies based on analytics and community feedback
- Maintain positive relationships with local media, civic organizations, schools and government groups
- Coordinate messaging with the Chief Communications Officer in the City Manager’s Office
- Ensure compliance with CJIS requirements and other law enforcement information-security standards
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field (required)
- Candidates without the degree may be considered if they possess substantially more relevant work experience
