About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented, creative, and curious legal mind to join our velocity driven team.  Superstate is hiring an Associate General Counsel to join our Legal team in New York to help us modernize financial markets through tokenization. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, your responsibilities will be wide ranging. This job will be fun and demanding.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of the traditional and decentralized finance markets and exceptional problem-solving skills.  If your passion lies at the intersection of law, finance and technology and you regularly geek-out over Matt Levine’s Money Stuff Newsletter- this job is for you.

• Ownership Mentality: If something needs to get done- do it. Operating independently and driving outcomes for issues presented. Identify and surface issues and opportunities that are around corners.
• Clear & Direct Communication: Be responsive and succinct for all internal and external communication. Ensure relevant team members are aware and understand items you are working on. Communication should be presented as actionable information.
• Operational Velocity: Bias towards meaningful action. Focus on items that are most important first. 
• First Principle Mindset: Consistently question “why” something is done in a certain manner and whether something can be done better. Avoid assuming that the status quo makes the most sense.

• Advise internal teams on developing new products and features
• Drafting contracts and agreements 
• Refining and assisting in Investment Adviser, Fund and Transfer Agent compliance program
• Engage with relevant policymakers and regulators 
• Maintaining a pulse on emerging trends in crypto and adjacent industries and the ability to identify trends and opportunities
• Review marketing materials

• J.D. degree and membership in at least 1 U.S. state bar
• At least 3 years of experience at large law firm, government, in-house, start-up 
• Knowledge and expertise relating to traditional finance & market structure.
• Understand investment adviser, broker-dealer, transfer agent regulation, compliance, and operations
• Knowledge and expertise with digital asset, crypto market structure and underlying blockchain technology
• Knowledge or expertise in Investment Adviser & public fund compliance programs 
• Ability to articulate complex concepts to both legal and non-legal audiences
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
• Based in New York City or Washington DC
